A boy and his grandad sitting by the little heart door
A bright, gentle children’s book cover set in a magical cottage garden. Reggie, a young boy with curly brown hair and rosy cheeks, sits on a picnic blanket wearing pale blue star-patterned pyjamas and yellow wellies. Beside him sits his Grandad, an elderly man with white hair and beard, round glasses, a brown flat cap, green jacket and green wellington boots. Grandad is smiling and holding up one finger as though sharing a special secret with Reggie. A tiny brown mouse stands between them on the blanket. Behind them is a sunny garden filled with wildflowers, greenery, a stone wall and a wooden garden gate. The illustration has a soft, whimsical storybook style with warm greens, yellows and golden tones. Above the characters, the title reads “My Grandad’s Magical Secret” in decorative green and golden-orange lettering. Beneath it is the author’s name, Jamie-Lee Hibberd. The Yellow Wellies Collection logo appears near the upper-right corner.

My Grandad’s Magical Secret

Once upon a time, there was a little boy called Reggie. It was a rainy day, and Reggie was very bored. He decided to get his binoculars and take a look out of his bedroom window. He looked up at the trees and saw birds hiding from the rain. He saw huge raindrops falling from the leaves, and big gusts of wind blew the tree from side to side. As he looked down through his binoculars, he stopped. He couldn't quite believe what he was seeing! He was sure he saw a mouse wearing wellington boots and an umbrella hat! He looked closer, but the mouse ran so fast that he wasn't sure. Then he saw the mouse run into a tiny hole in the tree! He was sure he saw a door on the mouse hole, and he was certain he saw lights shining from inside!

As soon as the rain stopped, Reggie ran as fast as he could down the stairs. He couldn't wait to get outside to get a closer look at what he thought he saw!

I believe stories should be shared with every child. If buying a book isn’t possible right now, please take these instead — free to print at home, always.

About me

Hello, I’m Jamie-Lee

I’m a mum living in Malta, originally from Worthing in England, writing bedtime stories for my little boy Reggie. The Yellow Wellies Collection began as stories whispered at bedtime — a boy, his grandad, a tiny door and a garden full of mice.

Every story is about kindness, because that is what I most want to pass on.
